The Seamanship Team is quizzed on knotwork, parts of a ship, compass directions, ranks, the phonetic alphabet, naval terminology and knowledge, as well as "heaving line". The team is ideally cadets of various different ranks.

The Semaphore Team performs semaphore, non-verbal communication using two flags traditionally used to send messages between ships or from ship to shore. The team consists of a sender and a receiver and their partners, who either read the message letter by letter to the sender or record the message for the receiver.
