Awards & Medals

​

Cadets who do really well may earn awards and medals.

The following awards are presented at the final parade night of the season and at the Annual Inspection:

​

  • Navy League of Canada Merit Badge - Conduct , general appearance and attitude have been outstanding throughout the year

  • Captains Award -Ideal attitude, dress and enthusiasm of the cadet corps

  • Most Improved Cadet Award - Most Improved Cadet overall

  • The Auxiliary Award - Best Senior Cadet

  • Lieutenant Walter (Pop) Cary Memorial Award  - Best Junior Cadet

  • Ronald Mathew Memorial Award - Excelled or Improvement over the training year and shows a positive attitude towards Cougar.

  • Vic Turansky Memorial Award  - Presented to the most improved cadets in both Cougar and Lion who have excelled in all levels of training, corps participation, and fundraising opportunities throughout the training year.

  • Cougar Volunteer Commendation Award - Presented to the cadet who has volunteered for community events.  To show what NLCC Cougar is all about and be the face of our corp.

  • Award of Appreciation - Presented to an individual who Navy League of Canada Ontario Division recognizes the outstanding support assistance to corps, branch and division directly through support in meeting the aims and objectives of The Navy League of Canada.

  • Meritorious Service Award -Awarded by Divisions in recognition of meritorious service to the Navy League for a period of three or more years and has demonstrated a clear understanding of, and dedication to, the Purpose and Objects of The Navy League of Canada.

  • Drill Award

  • Lieutenant Connie Hamilton Semaphore Award:  Most improved communicator using the "Semaphore Language of the Navy.

  • Lieutenant Tim Worron Seamanship Award - for the Cadets who best expresses a positive character and attitude towards Cougar and their fellow shipmates.

 

The following awards are presented at our Annual Inspection:

  • Citizenship Award:

  • Esprit de Corps Award:

  • Overall Proficiency Award: Especially in leadership (Petty Officer First Class to Chief Petty Officer First Class)

  • F.R. Ferguson Award: Highest mark on the Naval History Exam (New Entry to Chief Petty Officer First Class)

 

In exceptional circumstances, cadets may also be presented these rare awards:

​

  • Navy League Award of Commendation

  • Navy League Award of Excellence

 

In addition, cadets who attain perfect attendance may be awarded a perfect attendance badge yearly:

​

  • Bronze: One year of perfect attendance

  • Silver: Two years of perfect attendance

  • Gold: Three years of perfect attendance
